The Origin

How Amal Was Born

Amal means hope. This is where the name comes from.

Dubai, 2014

Maya and her husband Ali travelled to Dubai for their honeymoon. She had spent years in banking — precise, structured, measured. Dubai was the opposite: warm, opulent, scented at every corner.

She brought fragrances home. Back in Zürich, every bottle was a way back to that city. Colleagues kept asking what she wore; none of it was available in Europe. That was the first signal — and an idea she would carry with her for years.

The Formula

She did not go to a perfumer and order a formula, and she did not buy a finished scent and put a name on it. She worked on it herself, over years — and while expecting her third son, she began to formulate in earnest, in the evenings, with raw materials and an instinct sharpened over a decade. She wanted to hold one exact feeling: the warmth of hope, the deep grounding of oud, the lightness of anticipation.

Saffron too bold. Oud too dark. Rose too floral. Every version taught her something the next one kept.

Then a version held. The oud. The saffron. The rose. The hope.

One Bottle, One Tree

M'OUD was founded in 2022. But it wasn't just about perfume. For every bottle sold, Maya plants a tree through One Tree Planted. Because that's what Amal means — Hope.

Every numbered bottle is a promise: to honor the craft, to celebrate the moment, and to grow something living for the next generation.
