Oud for Winter: Warmth in a Bottle

When the days grow short and Zürich turns quiet and frosted, what we want from a fragrance changes. The light florals of spring and the citrus of summer feel out of place next to wool coats and early evenings. We look for weight, warmth and depth. This is when oud comes into its own.
What cold air does to a fragrance
In summer a fragrance rises off warm skin and fills the air quickly. In winter it does the opposite: cold air slows evaporation, and the scent stays closer and longer. Light, fresh notes need heat to carry and fade in the cold. Oud, amber, resins and woods evaporate slowly; they hold their shape, warm up gradually on the skin and unfold under a collar or scarf. A good winter fragrance works like cashmere: comfortable, close, quietly present.
Softening the edges
Raw oud can be dry and slightly medicinal. In winter compositions, vanilla, tonka bean and balsamic resins such as benzoin round it off and make it warmer, for festive gatherings and for evenings at home.
How much to wear
Winter clothing works for you. Wool and cashmere hold fragrance for a long time, so one spray on a scarf often does more than three on the skin. Indoors, in heated rooms, a scent grows again; that is the moment to have worn little rather than much. With an extrait at 30 to 35 percent, one application lasts from the morning meeting into the evening without topping up.
Which M’OUD for winter
- Amber Mirage is the warm one: tea, cardamom and apricot over cashmere wood, then amber, tonka bean, benzoin and oud. Made for coming home and for welcoming guests.
- Oud Amal Intense is the deepest: oud, frankincense and vanilla, at 35 percent, for evenings that matter.
- D’Or Davana brings davana and saffron with a touch of mango, then caramel and rose over oud, for the festive weeks.
And in summer?
Oud can be worn all year. In the heat a fragrance becomes louder and faster, so wear less: one spray, on the skin rather than on clothing, ideally in the evening. Lighter, floral interpretations suit warm days best. Soleil Levant, with cherry blossom, bergamot and white flowers over a soft oud base, is the bright choice for summer.
Questions
Is oud a winter fragrance?
Oud can be worn all year, but its density suits cold air especially well: it stays close and lasts.
Should I wear more perfume in winter?
Usually not. One spray on your scarf or coat is enough; heated rooms make a fragrance stronger again.
Which M’OUD extrait is warmest?
Amber Mirage for warmth, Oud Amal Intense for depth.
