Extrait de Parfum vs. Eau de Parfum

What concentration means
The name on a flacon tells you how much fragrance oil is dissolved in it. Concentration decides how long a scent lasts, how far it carries and how it evolves on your skin.
| Type | Fragrance oil | Typical longevity |
|---|---|---|
| Eau de Cologne | 2–5% | 2–3 hours |
| Eau de Toilette | 5–15% | 3–5 hours |
| Eau de Parfum | 15–20% | 5–8 hours |
| Extrait de Parfum | 20–40% | 8–24 hours and more |
The more oil, the longer and the closer to the skin a scent tends to stay.
How an Extrait behaves
It stays
An Extrait stays on the skin much longer than an Eau de Toilette, and longer still on fabric. How long depends on the composition, your skin and the climate.
It stays close
Extraits often sit close to the body. They create an aura rather than filling a room, which suits close encounters and personal spaces.
It unfolds
With more oil there is more to unfold. Top, heart and base have time to develop over the day, showing new facets as the hours pass.
It needs little
Two or three sprays are usually enough. Because each application needs less, a flacon of extrait lasts for more wearings than the same volume of a lighter concentration.
Why oud and extrait belong together
Natural oud is made of heavy molecules that need room to show their depth. In an extrait the oud is present enough to develop over hours instead of being thinned out.
The M’OUD Extraits
M’OUD makes Extrait de Parfum only, each in 100 ml, all with oud at the base, composed in Switzerland:
Oud Amal Intense · 35% · 18–24 hours depending on skin · numbered edition of 1,000
Soleil Levant · 30% · 12–24 hours depending on skin
Amber Mirage · 30% · 12–24 hours depending on skin
D’Or Davana · 30% · 12–24 hours depending on skin
All four carry the Swiss Label.
How to wear it
On the pulse points: wrists, neck, behind the ears. Don’t rub; let it breathe and develop. Two or three sprays. On moisturised skin it stays longer.
